Piriformis syndrome occurs when the small piriformis muscle, located deep in the buttock, becomes tight or irritated and presses on the sciatic nerve. This can cause pain in the hip or buttock that sometimes radiates down the leg. It often develops from overuse, prolonged sitting, or muscle imbalances, and can be frustratingly persistent.

Massage therapy offers a gentle yet effective way to ease symptoms. By working into the deep gluteal muscles, massage can help release tension, improve circulation, and restore flexibility in the hip area. This reduces pressure on the sciatic nerve, allowing the body to move more freely and with less discomfort.

Alongside stretching and mindful posture, regular massage can be a valuable part of recovering from and preventing piriformis syndrome.
